Description

 

Saguaro Lake, created by the Stewart Mountain Dam, is settled just 40 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix and even closer to Scottsdale and Mesa, suburbs of Phoenix. Name of the lake for the majestic Saguaro Cactus that speckle the surrounding desert landscape. Saguaro Lake has more than 22 miles of shoreline and when full is about 118 feet deep creating a great atmosphere for fishing , power boating, water skiing, sailing, jet skiing, kayaking and camping.

 

There is an strictly noise restriction 82-decibel strictly enforced. Because of the lake's popularity, certain restrictions can apply to boaters depending on the season. On popular holiday weekends for example, the lake can quickly reach boating capacity and additional boaters arriving late will find themselves prohibited from getting on the water. Summer weekends in general are particularly busy and those guests hoping to launch can expect some long delays, so arrive early during peak periods.

 

 

Marina Services, Camping & Recreation

 

The Saguaro Del Norte Recreation Area, placed on the west upper end of the lake near the dam, includes the Saguaro Lake Marina. The marina features boat storage, boat rental, boat slips, launch ramps, picnic talbes, fuel services, sewage tank dump, bait and tackle, and an exceptional restaurant that features great views of the lake. The refreshment area is open all daily all year from 6AM to 8PM.

 

The lake hides coves and caves all along its shoreline allowing opportunities for exploration and privacy even on busy weekends. Those guests who prefer to find their fun on dry land can explore the numerous goes-after that criss-cross the area and occasionally catch a glance of a soaring eagle, grazing mule deer or Big Horn sheep.

 

 

Directions To Saguaro Lake

 

Saguaro Lake is about 40 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix and even closer from Scottsdale and the East Valley communities of Greater Phoenix. Depending upon where you will coming from, there are two ways to reach Saguaro Lake.

 

From Scottsdale. Either take Shea Boulevard or McDowell Road east to Beeline Highway (SR 87). Turn north on Beeline. About 8 miles after crossing the Verde River, turn right at the Saguaro Lake Recreational Area.

 

Via Bush Highway. Take the Superstition Freeway (US 60) and exit north on Bush Highway. Continue on Bush Highway to the Saguaro Lake Recreation Area turnoff.
